Sinai-Grace Hospital is the only healthcare facility serving the northwest Detroit community. The hospital has a capacity of 519 beds with 352 medical/surgical beds. The emergency department is a 56-bed unit located on the ground floor of the hospital.

The emergency department achieved Level II Trauma Designation in 2006 and is a primary site for Detroit EMS. The department has seen a dramatic increase in the number of urgent, emergent, and critical medical and traumatic conditions over the past several years. While meeting the DMC 29-Minute Guarantee, the Emergency Department provided care to more than 82,000 patients in 2006 and admitted over 16,000 patients. Sinai-Grace Hospital also offers Express Care services for patients with minor complaints. The center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., seven days a week.

Emergency Department physician leadership includes: Mark W. Brautigan, M.D., Chief of Emergency Medicine; Robert Malinowski, M.D., Vice Chief; and Matthew Griffin, M.D., Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Sinai-Grace Hospital recently received accreditation status of five years. This three year program provides specialty training to thirty residents (ten per year). Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physicians staff the department complemented by registered nurses trained and certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Trauma Nursing and Emergency Pediatric Nursing.
